Extend Your Equipment Life; Invest in Lowered Costs
Looking for a sophisticated tool to help identify equipment problems before they grow into major repairs? SOS Services provide scheduled oil and coolant sampling options to supplement your preventative maintenance (PM) program. Adding regularly scheduled fluid analysis to your preventive maintenance program can noticeably reduce downtime due to major failures and increase your productivity.
You can measure the success of your preventative maintenance (PM) programs in your bottom line analysis: maintaining over the long-term dramatically decreases the high-cost repairs and major failures encountered by operators who don’t maintain their equipment. And, early detection of trouble spots reduces downtime and increases your productivity.
Add to the longevity of your equipment. Unlike many preventive maintenance programs, Caterpillar® oil analysis plans go beyond just testing oil condition, evaluating the overall condition of the engine and machine.
Identify, Analyze, and Make Better Service Decisions Leverage sophisticated SOS Services to monitor component conditions and predict possible failures. Expert lab technicians analyze over 122,057 SOS samples each year at our in-house oil lab, determining internal wear, oil condition, and oil contamination levels. Our technicians conduct comprehensive fluid analysis, examining for:
Wear metals
Fuel, water, and glycol
Soot, oxidation, and sulfur levels
Particle counts
Ferrous debris
Resolve Fuel System Problems
Experiencing poor equipment performance? The problem could be due to plugged filters caused by mandated fuels usage. With filter analysis and our fuel tests, we can make recommendations to help resolve you fuel problems.
Protect Against Engine Failures
Did you know coolant or cooling system problems contribute to more than 50 percent of all engine failures? Factors leading to failure include:
System problems such as stray electrical current or block heater failure
Analyze and Take Action: SOS Coolant Analysis
Cooling system problems will reduce the life of transmission and hydraulic components served by coolant heat exchanges – that means downtime. Take action today: take advantage of the SOS Services two-level coolant analysis program that goes beyond typical condition checks.
Level one, basic coolant analysis check consists of four analytical tests and four observational parameters that detect major problems with the coolant and can predict some major cooling system problems. Technicians from our oil lab also use basic SOS sample results to inform you when level two coolant analysis is necessary.
Level two, comprehensive cooling system analysis involves extensive chemical evaluation of the coolant and overall effects of the fluid on the inside of your cooling system. The series of tests thoroughly analyzes your SOS sample – identifying subtle cooling system problems, determining probable causes, and helping prioritize the urgency of correction.
Retaining Machine Value
Machines and engines maintained with scheduled Caterpillar oil analysis services generally bring higher prices upon trade-in or sale. For example, owners find they can command higher prices for their equipment at trade-in because they carry comprehensive SOS Services records proving the equipment received proper maintenance. The added sales dollars in your pocket more than offset the costs of SOS Services.
Best Results: Follow Recommendations
The SOS Services program does not solve problems with your equipment. The process uses fluid analysis to closely monitor the impact of application and operational factors on product health. Keep your equipment running at peak performance by following the recommended preventive maintenance program suggested for your equipment.
